Jin is not the sharpest tool in the shed and the same goes for Yamapi. But together over a few cans of beer they can become geniuses or at least they think they do. That is also the reason why they often found themselves sharing a couple of beers together as often as their schedules let them. Most of the time it’s together with their usual party group, sometimes they’re by themselves and very rarely they do it together with their mutual best friend Kamenashi Kazuya. Tonight they are with Kame for the first time in what seems like forever but it’s actually only been a month. Kame doesn’t like spending his free time drinking the nights away that often but they still respect and love him just as much anyway. But it was therefore kind of a surprise for them when Kame had invited them over to his apartment for dinner and drinks.
They had finished dinner a while ago and was now hanging out in the living room drinking and listening to music; Eric Clapton – Kame’s choice.
“Ah, it’s nice having someone over” Kame sighed contented as he sipped on his glass of wine. “No one’s really been over since Tegoshi-kun spent the night”
“What?” Yamapi said his eyes widen in shock over hearing that his youngest band member had been spending a night at Kame’s place. This fact was obviously news to Jin as well as he almost choke on his beer causing him to have a coughing fit.
“Why did Tego sleep here?” Yamapi asked as he patted Jin’s back. “Did the two of you hook up or something during Dream Boys?”
“Nonono!” Kame answered a little too quickly “It’s not like you guys might think”
A blush started to show on Kame’s cheeks or maybe it was just the alcohol making his body temperature heat up slightly.
“Okay, so what happened?” Yamapi asked seriously curious about it all. Jin looked at Kame just as curious now that his coughing had finally stopped.
“We, Tegoshi-kun and I, we ran into each other” Kame started looking down into his glass of wine. “I was out with Nakamaru at this bar close to here and we ran into Tegoshi-kun and Masuda-kun”
Kame stopped for a moment to take a gulp from his wine glass. Jin and Yamapi stayed quiet waiting for Kame to continue with his story.
“So naturally we ended up talking, what with Masuda-kun and Nakamaru being really good friends and me and Tegoshi being more than just colleagues now after Dream Boys.”
He paused again and got a thoughtful look on his face as if contemplating how to continue or what to really tell them.
“So, after an hour or two both Nakamaru and Masuda-kun had to go and left us alone” Kame said giving his best friends a wary look. “Tegoshi-kun and I continued talking and drinking until late. And by the time we left the both of us was rather out of it. I offered Tegoshi-kun to sleep on my couch so that he wouldn’t have to get home all by himself that late… and yeah that’s that”
“What a boring story” Jin complained “I thought it would be juicier”
As on cue Kame’s face got more flushed by that comment and he quickly tried to hide it behind a magazine that had been lying on the small table next to the couch.
“Kazu-chan?” Jin started; both he and Yamapi had caught the youngest embarrassed face. “Is there more to this story that you’re not telling us?”
“No” Kame answered almost choking on the single word while still hiding behind the magazine.
“I think you’re lying” Yamapi smirked and snatched the magazine away from Kame who instead tried to hide his face behind his hair. “Something did happen!”
“No” Kame said pulling his legs up and pressed his face between his knees while he hugged them close.
“Come on Kazu-chan” Jin pleaded. “We’re your best friends, right?”
Kame nodded still hiding his face.
“So then tell us” Yamapi said placing a hand on Kame’s knee. Kame twitched slightly at the sudden touch and looked up to face the others.
“Okay” he said and took a deep breath as Jin and Yamapi gave him expectant looks. “When we got back to my apartment we went and sat down in front of the TV. We continued drinking and talking and laughing and one thing lead to another and we…” Kame blushed and stopped mid-sentence.
“You ended up sleeping together?” Jin guessed looking at him with big eyes.
“No! God no!” Kame said looking slightly horrified. “We kissed. And after that it got kind of awkward so I hurried up and got him a blanket before hiding away in my bedroom”
“Just a kiss” Yamapi said sounding slightly disappointed.
“What do you mean just a kiss?” Kame protested glaring at Yamapi. “It wasn’t just a kiss. I kissed Tegoshi-kun and… and…“ Kame’s face that had almost gone back to normal turned a deep shade of red again and he didn’t dare to meet his best friends' eyes.
“And?” Jin and Yamapi encouraged him to go on.
“And I…” Kame hid his face in his hands and mumbled the rest of the sentence making it impossible for the other two to hear him. Yamapi sighed and grabbed a hold of Kame’s hand and pulled them away from his face.
“We can’t hear what you’re saying if you cover your face and then mumble like that” he said giving him a soft smile. “So what was the last thing you said?”
“Promise not to laugh” Kame said raising his head and glancing over at his friends.
“We promise” Jin said copying Yamapi by giving Kame a soft smile as well. “So please tell us”
“I… I liked it. I liked kissing Tegoshi-kun” Kame said and started to fiddle nervously with the hem of his shirt. When the other two didn’t comment on what he had just said Kame looked over at them. He found them both staring at him with a blank expression; almost as if their brains had stopped working.
“Are you guys okay?” he asked a bit worried and bit down on his lower lip.
“You liked it” Yamapi said getting out of his sudden malfunction.
“Yeah” Kame replied and reached for his glass of wine again.
“Does that mean that you like Tegoshi-kun?” Jin asked also coming out of his shock.
“I guess…” Kame said a bit wary. “But ah, it’s well; it is a unrequited love so I’ll get over it soon”
“What do you mean unrequited?” Jin frowned. “He kissed you didn’t he? You don’t kiss anyone unless you like them, right?”
“Yeah, I guess but…” Kame started but got cut off by Jin.
“But what?” Jin seemingly a bit offended for some reason.
“Every time we’d happened to see each other after that night he acts as if nothing happened” Kame said “and the morning after that night he was gone when I woke up”
“Maybe he’s just insecure” Yamapi said cutting into the conversation. “I know Tego can come across as very confident at times but when it comes to matters with the heart he can be, well a bit insecure and not really know what to do. Trust me; I’ve been listening to a lot of his talks about love.”
“See?” Jin said as if what Yamapi had just said proved everything. “And if he don’t like you he’s a fool cause what is there not to like about you? I mean if I was gay, I would definitely want you.”
“I don’t know” Kame said blushing at the compliment and started to scratch the back of his head slightly. “So can we talk about something else now? Or maybe we can watch a movie?”
“Sure” Yamapi shrugged and gave Jin a look that told him to drop the subject for now but that the two of them would discuss it later. Jin sighed and nodded at Yamapi as Kame got up from the couch to turn off the music and turn on the TV.
“So what should we do about Kame and Tego?” Yamapi asked a couple of days later when he and Jin met up for a beer after work. Miraculously their schedules didn’t work against them for a second time that very same week.
“I have no idea” Jin said looking up from the menu “But we must do something. Kame really seem to like that brat”
“And I really think that Tego likes him back.” Yamapi smiled softly. “But I wonder why he hasn’t come to me for advice about it?”
“That’s not that strange” Jin said. “I mean you’re best friends with Kame and Tegoshi-kun would probably be worried that you would spill his secret to Kame”
“Ah, yeah that could be true” Yampi nodded. “But maybe he’s talked to somebody else? I should check with the others in my group”
“That’s a great idea.” Jin said looking down at the menu again. “And when we’ve confirmed what we already think we know we should just lock them into a room and have them confess their undying love for each other.”
“Isn’t that a little too cliché?” Yamapi asked seemingly not buying Jin’s idea. “Locking someone into a room I mean”
“So? Just because it’s cliché it doesn’t mean that it won’t work” Jin smirked. “Or do you have any better idea?”
“Not really” Yamapi admitted “but we could take them with us out and then as the night goes we can leave them alone and maybe it’ll end up like last time but with a better ending and a juicy story for Kame to tell us”
“Yeah, let’s do that!” Jin agreed. “I love juicy stories”
They decided to take their plan into action as soon as possible. Jin would check Kame’s schedule and Yamapi would check Tegoshi’s. They wouldn’t let Kame in on their plan and no other people as well. But before they could take action in the name of love Yamapi would have to check with the other members of News if Tegoshi had come to them for advice. After all if they were wrong they wouldn’t want to let Kame make a fool out of himself or even worse get heartbroken. A heartbroken Kame was not something that they would ever want to see again.
“Ne, Shige?” Yamapi said scratching the back of his head. He and Shige were currently the only ones in the dressing room while the other’s was still busy being photographed for some magazine.
“Yeah what is it Yamapi?” Shige asked looking up from his law books.
“Do you know if Tegoshi likes someone at the moment?” Yamapi asked sitting down on a chair next to Shige.
“No,” Shige said looking a bit confused over being asked something like that. “He doesn’t really talk to me about things like that. Why do you ask? Are you crushing on him or something?”
“No, but I know someone who does” Yamapi sighed. “And I just wanna know if Tego likes this person back or not”
“Then you should check with Massu” Shige said. “I know he doesn’t really look like someone you’d go to for that kind of talk but he’s a pretty good listener and don’t judge you. And if you need it he always has some kind of food you can use as a comfort”
“Yeah?” Yamapi said a bit surprised. He had known Masuda for several years now but not once had it crossed him that Masuda might be a good support for one when it came to love problems. “I’ll make sure to talk to him then. Thanks”
“You’re welcome” Shige smiled. “Just let me know when you found out and if you and Akanishi-kun manage to get Tego and Kamenashi-kun together”
“How did you know it’s Kame?” Yamapi asked stunned.
“I just guessed.” Shige said and then got back to his books. Yamapi blinked a few times; Shige sure did surprise him sometimes.
“Massu?” Yamapi approached Masuda the next day when the lunch break arrived after a few hours of dance practice. “Would you like to come with me for lunch? I need to talk to you about something”
“Sure” Masuda beamed drying his face with a towel. “I’ll just grab my bag.
“Good” Yamapi said and looked around the room. His eyes met Shige’s and the other gave him a knowing smile. Yamapi smiled back just before Masuda was back next to him and they left the room together.
“So what was it you wanted to talk to me about?” Masuda said as he dug into his plate of gyoza.
“Ah, I’m just curious about whether or not Tego likes someone at the moment” Yamapi said as he started to eat as well. “And no, it’s not because I like him. I have a girlfriend and have no plans of leaving her any time soon.”
“Oh, yeah he likes someone” Masuda answered after being well mannered enough to swallow the food he had in his mouth before he talked.”So if it’s not for you then why do you want to know?”
“I know someone who likes him” Yamapi explained “and I just want to see if maybe Tego likes this person back or not. So who is it that Tego likes?”
“I really don’t know if I should tell you that” Masuda said a bit hesitant.
“Okay, but what if I guess then?” Yamapi suggested. “And if I guess right you’ll tell me, okay?”
“Okay” Masuda agreed and continued to eat his beloved gyoza.
“Kame” Yamapi said and Masuda stopped his chopsticks just an inch away from his mouth and looked over at him.
“You mean Kamenashi Kazuya-kun, right?” he asked just to make sure that there wasn’t anybody else that went by the nickname Kame.
“Yes, of course” Yamapi replied. “So does Tego like Kame?”
“Yes, Tego likes Kamenashi-kun” Masuda nodded. “And he’s been doing that for quite some time now. He was so happy when he got to know that he was going to work with him on Dream Boys. He almost got ecstatic and I don’t know how many nights I’ve been on the phone with him listening to his rambles about how amazing Kamenashi-kun is”
“Really?” Yamapi couldn’t hide his excitement over being proved right in his suspicions.
“Yes” Masuda smiled. “But how did you know it would be Kamenashi-kun? Does Kamenashi-kun like Tego back?”
“Just a wild guess” Yamapi said pulling out his wallet. “But I have to go now; I just remember I had something to do during the lunch break. This should be enough to pay for both our meals” he placed some money on the table as he got up from his chair. “I’m really sorry, I’ll make it up to you another time and you can have the rest of my food if you want”
“Oh, okay” Masuda said a bit confused over his leaders sudden rush. “See you later back at practice.”
“Yeah, bye” Yampi pulled his coat on as he rushed out from the restaurant.
“Jin?” Yamapi said into the phone. “You’re not busy right now are you?”
“No, I have lunch break” Jin answered. “Why?”
“I just got our suspicions confirmed. Tego likes Kame and have apparently liked him for a long time” Yamapi said a big smile decorating his face as he walked down the street back to the agency.
“Really? That’s great.” Jin said and Yamapi could tell he was smiling like a fool. “Now we just have to find a place and time for our plan to take place. We would never be able to drag Kame with us to a club so it has to be a smaller and cosier place”
“Yeah, how about just go to the place where they met the last time?” Yamapi suggested. “I mean, it’s a place they are both familiar with”
“That’s true. Yeah, we should do that. I’ll check Kame’s schedule right away to see when he has his days off”
“Good, and I’ll do the same with Tego” Yamapi said as he reached the agency and pushed the door open. “Call me when you’ve made notes on what days in the near future that is, okay?”
“Yeah, bye” Jin said.
“Bye” Yamapi said and hung up the phone a big goofy smile still decorating his face. It sure was fun playing matchmaker like this.
It was as if Cupid was on their side in their mission on getting the two younger men together since it turned out that both Tegoshi and Kame would be having a day of that very Saturday and that meant that it would be great to have a night out on Friday. Yamapi and Jin however wasn’t free on Saturday but that was okay since that would just give them a validate excuse to leave early.
“I really like this place” Tegoshi said smiling at Yamapi who sat on the other side of the table. “I went here with Massu some time ago”
“Yeah, it’s a nice place. I wonder why I haven’t been here before” Yamapi commented looking around the bar. It was a rather small and really cosy place and he could really understand why Kame would like a place like this. He glanced down on his watch. Jin and Kame should be here soon and as on cue the door to the bar opened and they entered the place. Yamapi beamed at the sight of them and got up to wave them over. He cast a glance at Tegoshi and noticed how the other looked slightly horrified for just a second.
“You didn’t tell me we would get company” Tegoshi hissed when Yamapi had sat back down and Kame and Jin were hanging up their coats.
“I didn’t?” Yamapi said faking innocence. “I’m sorry it must’ve slipped my mind”
Tegoshi glared at him, something that didn’t happen that often. It took Yamapi slightly by surprise but he didn’t get to react any further on it as Kame and Jin joined them by the table. Kame and Tegoshi greeted each other politely and even though Kame had been kept out on the fact that Tegoshi would be there he didn’t show his surprise. He did however send both Yamapi and Jin a glare and they just smiled sheepishly at him.
The conversation around the table went rather awkwardly at first; what with both Kame and Tegoshi trying to hide their feelings so Jin and Yamapi was the ones leading the talk. But after a while; when both Tegoshi and Kame had gotten a couple of glasses of wine into their blood system the talk started to flow more freely around the table. Jin and Yamapi shared a dozen of smiles, clearly happy that their plan seemed to work so far. At 11pm they excused themselves but Kame and Tego barely took notice of their departure as they were engrossed in a deep conversation about some novel that apparently the both of them just had finished reading.
“Do you think it will work?” Jin asked casting one last glance at the couple before they walked out the door.
“I’m sure of it.” Yamapi smiled. “We’ll probably receive thank you messages from Kame tomorrow and then he’ll treat us to dinner as a thank you”
“I really hope so” Jin smiled back. “He really makes the best curry and I wouldn’t mind him treating us to it”
Kame and Tego continued to talk, laugh and drink until the bar closed at 2am. Kame was light headed and happy as they walked out from the bar.
“Aaah!” He stretched his arms into the air welcoming the cold air against his skin as the alcohol he had consumed had made him quite hot. He pulled his arms back down when he heard Tegoshi chuckled next to him and he turned to give the other a smile.
“You’re cute” Tegoshi said bluntly but covered his month just after the words had slipped out.
“You’re cute too” Kame said before he could stop himself and then he blushed.
“Thanks” Tegoshi said uncovering his mouth and gave Kame as soft smile. “So, uh Kamenashi-kun would you mind if I-“
“Kame, please call me Kame” Kame cut in before Tegoshi could finish his sentence.
“Ah, okay then you should call me Tego” Tegoshi smiled and Kame gave him a short nod. “So, uh Kame… would you mind if I slept over at your place again? I can understand if you don’t want me to after what happened the last time but I really don’t like going home by myself but-“
“Of course you can” Kame said and reached his hand out to grab the others hand. “My couch is always available for my friends”
“Ah, thank you so much” Tegoshi said a bit startled and looked down at their hands. Kame followed his gaze and when he realized what he had just done he tried to pull his hand away but Tegoshi wouldn’t let him. Kame looked up and gave Tegoshi a questioning look.
“My hand is kinda cold and your hand is helping me keeping it warm” Tegoshi said looking rather shy as he bit down on his lower lip. Kame didn’t say anything at that; he just gave Tegoshi as small nod before they started to walk towards Kame’s apartment.
“Tego” Kame said as they were back at his apartment. They were in the kitchen and he was preparing them both a cup of herbal tea.
“What is it Kame?” Tegoshi asked from where he was sitting by the kitchen table watching Kame work by the counter.
“I just want you to know that…” Kame started watching the kettle. “That what happened the last time you were here; that I’m not regretting kissing you. I just want you to know that I liked it and that I-“ Kame was cut off as he felt Tegoshi hug him from behind. He turned his head around to face the other. “Tego?”
“I’m so happy to hear that” Tego said hugging Kame tighter. “I don’t regret it either but I’ve been so scared that you didn’t like me because of that. You acted so weird after the kiss and I thought for sure that you were disgusted by me or something but that you were too nice to throw me out. You’re always so nice to everyone”
“I’m sorry” Kame turned around and placed his arms around Tegoshi. “I was just as scared as you. It was so sudden and we both had alcohol in the system and-“
Kame was cut off again but this time by Tegoshi’s lips crashing down on his. He got a bit startled but soon melted into the kiss as he closed his eyes. Their lips caressed each other slowly and sensually at first but soon it became more heated. Their tongues got involved in the passionate and emotional dance and they pressed each other’s bodies closer. Kame’s hands founder their way into the soft locks of the younger man as Tegoshi‘s started to stroke his back up and down the spine.
Their kiss was interrupted by the kettle signalling that the water was ready. Kame opened his eyes and was met by the soft and sparkling gaze of Tegoshi.
“So, how do you like your tea?” he asked licking his lips, feeling a bit nervous and not quite sure how to act or what to say.
“Plain, just like it is.” Tegoshi answered and Kame noted that he seemed quite nervous as well. None of them said anything more after that and Kame made no attempt to get out of Tegoshi’s embrace to finish preparing the tea. They just stood there staring at each other for a couple of minutes before they leaned in for another kiss completely forgetting everything that had to do with tea. The kiss this time was heated and passionate from the started and their hands wandered all over each other’s bodies. Kame could almost not believe this was happening as he started to pull Tegoshi with him away from the kitchen and into the living room. This was pure bliss and he made a note in his head that he had to somehow thank Yamapi and Jin for making this happen. He fell backwards onto the couch with Tegoshi on top of him and his hands found their way underneath Tegoshi’s sweater.
“So what happened after we left last night?” Jin asked Kame the next evening over the phone. Kame could hear music and people; mostly Yamapi, in the background so he figured Jin must be out at some club with his troop.
“Nothing much” Kame answered nonchalantly “Tegoshi-kun and I just talked and had a few more drinks before we went home to our own apartments” He smiled at Tegoshi who was lying on the couch with his head in Kame’s lap. Kame ran his hands softly through Tegoshi’s hair.
“No way! You gotta be kidding us!” Yamapi almost yelled down the phone. He had obviously taken it away from Jin.
“Yeah, I’m just teasing you” Kame chuckled. “But what happened after you two left is a secret. Isn’t it Tego?” Kame said directing his question to Tegoshi and he could hear how both Jin and Yamapi gasped.
“Yeah” Tegoshi answered with a smile and lifted his head up to give Kame a soft kiss on the lips.
“You guys I have to go now” Kame said into the phone, his words slightly muffled since Tegoshi’s lips were still on his. “Bye” and with that he hung up on his best friends and gave Tegoshi all of his attention.
