Kame took private English lessons back in 06/07 O_O
About and hour and a half ago I got back home from a lecture/presentation (or whatever I should call it) about Johnny's and Japanese Idol culture just about an hour ago. The one speaking was a Swedish journalist and MAJOR Johnny's fan called Marita Lindqvist. She spoke about Johnny's in general, not much I hadn't heard before. What got me, however was that she told us about some of the things she got to experience when she did a documentary about Johnny's years ago. One of the weirdest things that she experienced was sitting in and take part in one of Kame's weekly English lessons.
Apparently, Mary - Johnny's sister didn't want Kame to be any less than Jin. So when Jin went away to learn English in LA and she made Kame take English lessons in Japan. I had never heard about this before, not anywhere have I read about this taking place, so I was seriously surprised O_O
Has anyone of you on my F-list heard about this before? I can’t think that I have missed something as major as this. I’ve read almost everything I can about Kame and I can’t imagine that if I ever read something like this that I forgot all about it.
Marita also said that Kame was very nice and polite. During the lesson he first started with reading a short essay that he had written in English about himself together with the teacher (who also was Marita’s interpreter) had worked on. And after that they practised speaking, and they spoke about all kinds of things like golf and Swedish athletes etc.
After the lesson Marita and her partner took a taxi with Kame to Shibuya and he helped them find a place that they were looking for. No one recognized Kame as they walked on the streets in broad daylight though XD
That's all I wanted to share with you and if anyone of you've read about this before, then please if you can, give me a link :)

I think they must speak english)))

Anyway, it was a big surprise and I haven't been able to stop thinking about this since I got back home a few hours ago XD

I didn't know about his English lessons
and somehow I think they were not that helpful...uhm...XDno subject
Ma, ma, I think Kame's pretty good at English, obviously not as good as Jin. I think Kame probably understands a lot but is poor at speaking it, just like I'm with Spanish. And since he seemingly have a love for England (wants to go to London) he probably wants to become better :) And anyway, I think it's adorable when he speaks English &hearts

This summer I met a Korean guy and if in Japan they teach English the same way the do in Korea it doesn't surprise me if Kame understands but doesn't speak D: My friend told me that they really learn the grammar and all, but they don't do lessons to speak, so...
no subject
Anyway, I totally understand your soft spot. I like listening to people trying to speak other languages, at least most of the time. If it gets embarrassing though I feel bad, and would it be in a TV show I would change the channel or mute it for a moment XD I'm really bad when it comes to people embarrassing themselves, I get embarrassed with them and I just can't handle it. That's why I never watch the audition parts of TV shows like Idol >__
no subject
I agree with you about the embarassment part, still...I really like to listen to people and try to understand where they are from from their accent :)
Not funny when you're asking for something and people fake that they didn't understand you. Or they laugh at you. That's something I hate (personal experience XP)
I'm going to sleep now :) God natt :D

Yeah, Kame working hard is always heart warming but I get worried too since he never seem to get enough rest. And during that time he must've been super busy so him taking extra lessons must've been hard. I mean he was doing a drama and then there was album release and concert prep. But still I can't help but think that the image of him reading an essay about himself with very poor English pronunciation as utterly adorable. *.* &hearts

As expected Kame is nice ne
~^^~
Ehm, so he learn english as well >.<
and he'll leave behind Jin too much
Thanks for sharing this ^^

But it's good to know that he also studied English, coz it's very useful especially in their career where they meet different people every now and then. It's easier to communicate.
And for sure Mary (Johnny's sister) meant well when she ask Kame to learn the language (coz malicious thinkers might insinuate competition)
Thank you for sharing this... ♥

I'm sure Mary meant well too, but she was probably thinking that Kame would not be any less that Jin as well. I don't think there's been any competition about this matter between Kame and Jin though :)

I so wanted to attend the same event that's taking place in Stockholm on saturday. Unfortunatly I have a previous engagemnet at 15h (the talk being 14-16!) ahh! and when you say she met with Kame too, oh my, missing out! ;)
I read somewhere that Kame's subject of choice in school was English, but I quickly disregarded it as the imagination of someone when I acctually heard him (try to) speak it! But I havenät heard of any private tutoring either, but it's nice to hear that he tried! :)
no subject
I'm sad to hear you won't be able to attend the event in Sthlm because it really was a lot of fun. I laughed so much though out the event. Marita is really funny and sweet :)
Yeah I heard he enjoyed English in school too, but that he had taken private lessons later was a big surprise O_O however the picture of Kame trying his best to read out loud an essay about himself is a very adorable one *.*
But no, he's not very good at speaking it XD however I think that he probably is pretty good at understanding it. It's always easier to read and understand a foregin language than actaully speaking it. I always get tonguetied when I try to speak in spanish but I can understand quite a lot when I read or hear someone speaking it :)
Hasn't Kame also the last few years mentioned that he wants to become better so that he'd be able to go to London and actually communicate with the people there?
Sorry for rambling so much, but I sometimes can't help myself, and especially not when it comes to Kame &hearts
Btw, how did you find this post? :)
no subject
Yes, one would think that he'd get a little better with private lessons. But I agree with you, I think he understands it quite well, it's just oral proficency that is lacking. I am (like you with Spanish) also good at understanding and writing French, but often massively fail when trying to speak it! xD
Yeah, I recall something about him wanting to get better and go to London! Let's hope that it's true so that we can speak with him if no when we meet him!! ;D I totally understand your rambling, I am very prone to it as well, and especially when it comes to Kame (and certain other JE-favourites) although Kame brings it out the most! hehe
How did I find this post. hm, good question. oh yeah, while procrastinating and not doing my school work I surfed around LJ and was reading a post by a mutual friend (kawaiikame) and I saw you had commented, and since you have "swedish" in your username I clicked on you! ;)
no subject
Who's your other favourites? Kame is my number one but I guess the one I fell for first, and that got me into this was MatsuJun (HYD) and then I was totally in love with Yamapi for a while but then along came Kame and I fell head over heels sort of XD I actually have no idea who else is on my list of favourites since it pretty much varies from day to day. One day it can be Tegoshi, or Aiba, or Nakamaru or Shige or Taguchi etc. It all depends on my mood I guess XD
Sorry again for rambling! I guess I just feel like talking today XD
Anyway, do you mind if I add you? :)
no subject
My other favourites are Yamapi as well, and Sakurai Sho. I got into JE through Arashi and Sho seems like such a loveable dork! ^^ But I would say that Kame is by far my number one now as well! Those three are always going to be awesome at the top. Then I have some others I like but also varies from day to day (often depending on what drama I am currently watching xD. But we seem to have similar likes, I have a soft spot for Taguchi, Tegoshi, Aiba and Toma. Then I like Oguri Shun outside of JE!
Don't apologize for rambling - I love ramblind! ;D
I'll add you now!! :)
no subject
but he should try to take care of himself better sometimes and not think too much about others&heartsI've started to like Sho a bit more recently, after watching more and more HnA episodes. This might sound weird, but I must say that I kind of really like his speaking voice. I don't know why but I think I might have a voice fetish or something. I love Kame's speaking voice as well as his singing voice, as well as I love Shige's speaking voice and Taguchi's. What it is with their voices that I like I have no idea so don't ask me XD
I'm happy to hear you enjoy rambling because I do too and when I really get into it I can ramble on for forever it seems XD
Added you back! Welcome to my f-list &hearts
no subject
oo - voice fetish! I have that for Oguri Shun's voice. Which is probably part of why I took a greater liking to Hanazawa Rui than to Domyouji in HYD (a part from the obvious niceness of the Rui character^^). And obviously Kame's voice is great! Both of them have a certain uniqueness to their voices which is why they stand out in my ears I think! ;)
JE rambling is something my poor Japanese friends have had to endure (not at all being JE fans but being the only ones who had any kind of clue what I was talking about) - but to a slightly lesser extent since I joined LJ! It's just that when I skype with them they usually ask how the fandom is going (if I'm still into it, who I listen to etc) so they have themselves to blame! 'Cause when I start it is indeed hard to stop! Sometimes it feels like I have a loong monologue and I think I lose them halfway xD
no subject
At first I really liked Rui in HYD and hoped that he'd get together with Maki but then I slowly fell for Domyouji
something I never thought I would XDbut I have to agree that Oguri have a nice voice too :)Among my friends, I only have one that's I can blabber about my love for Johnny's about, but she's not a fangirl though. She's just a japan nerd (anime, manga, gaming etc) but she can somehow understand my love. She went with me to the event yesterday :) and there I actually meet a girl that she knew through someone else that also is a big Johnny's fan. I'm going to another event tonight, that is more about the Japanese pop culture in general (anime, music, karaoke, yaoi etc). I bet that will be a lot of fun as well :) Japan really is a fascinating country. They have both this kind of conservative side but then they also have the craziest things O_O I'd love to go there one day :)
You've been to Japan?
no subject
It's nice that there's a lot of Japan related events that you can go to! I'm not a big anime/manga/gaming fan, although I enjoy watching anime now and then. But then there's so much out there that I don't know where to start, so that's why I kind of let it be! hehe. I moved to Uppsala for school in january, and there seems to be a big "japan nerd" community here, or so I hear. I haven't been in touch with it! hehe I read about UppCon (do you know it? your friend must surely do^^) and it does seem to be manga/gaming/cosplay oriented!
YES - I went to Japan last year in September-October! :D I studied abroad in France 09/10 and there I met some Japanese friends whom I visited :) Before going there I had no interest or knowledge about Jpop. One of my friends actually gave me some Japanese music that I never listened to :O Some of it being Arashi's "best of" album which I listened to constantly in Japan! haha. So I am only a JE fan since about 6 months! It's funny that I got so into it since none of my friends like JE. But I saw Arashi ni Shiyagare on TV several times and then I got conscious about the fact that Arashi was EVERYWHERE. TV, magazines, commercials, billboards etc. At first I just thought they were cute and funny, then my friend who gave me the music before said "I gave you arashi before and you didn't like them" and I was like "no way - that's not possible" xD So after that I started listening to Arashi which was a saviour on the train in Tokyo. My friend lives in Kanagawa prefecture about 40-50 min from central Tokyo, so every day we went into Tokyo we spent atleast 2h on the train!
Then when I got home to Sweden with a lot of time on my hands and I started watching j-dramas and subbed variety (in Japan I just watched it without understanding much haha) and now I am totally hooked! At first it was all about Arashi - but through dramas I got into Yamapi and then Kame and KAT-TUN! :) And right now it is SO about Kame! ;D
rambling? yes, very much so! xD
no subject
Yes, Kame is more of a beautiful man than a handsome one. The feminine yet so masculine side of him is what got me stuck on him. He's not afraid of bringing his feminine side out and I think that is because he is so secure in his masculinity that he knows he can get away with it. Do you get what I mean?
I love the 1582 performance. I have no idea how many times I have watched it and everytime I get speechless, my breath gets caught in my throat and I can't take my eyes away from him O_O
There's a lot of Japan related events because there's a big exhibition going on at the Världskulturmuseet called Kimono Fusion. There's going to be a Kimono fashion show in the beginning of April and in the middle of March there'll be a nail workshop i.e you can learn how to deco your nails with all kinds of things. My friend and I are going to that workshop just for the lol of it XD
So you started listening to j-pop after visiting Japan, that's kind of different XP and yeah I've heard that Johnny's are everywhere in Japan, if you know they exist then you're said to not be able to not notice them XD I'd love if it was the same here. I wouldn't mind seeing Kame's face splashed up on a billboard here in Sweden every time I go out XP
I myself got into this fandom about 2 years and 2 months ago (very early Jan 2009) and it was through a friend that's not into the fandom but she somehow had a couple of j-dramas that she showed me - Hana Kimi and HYD, when I visited her in Scotland (she lives in Norway now though) and when I got back to Sweden I did researches on the actors (Toma, Jun etc.) and noticed that they was from the same agency, was in popular groups, had done other dramas etc. and with in a couple of weeks I was stuck in the fandom. So far I think I've watched over 50, maybe 60, dramas, just in the first year I watched almost 40 and then I am not counting the SP XD
Now I have to go and do the laundry. Sorry again for not replying until this morning and good luck with your studies. I read on your LJ this morning about it and we're kind of in the same boat. I have a C-uppsats that I should write on (it should've been done last year but due to sickness etc. I never finished it...) but my motivation and self-discipline really is low >___>
Good luck again! (^___^)&hearts

Yes, the 1582 is always awesome, I squirm out of pleasure everytime! xD And I agree that I think that he is pretty comfortable with himself, he has to be otherwise he wouldn't be able to pull of such a great performance, as well as his other girly moments! ^^ He does it confidently and isn't embarrased about it. I think the Nobuta and "sometimes else where" appearing "tofs" he has is adorable. Do you know which one I mean? When he wears his bangs on top of his head! ^^
Yeah, Johnnys are everywhere in Japan, but still I didn't see any KAT-TUN related stuff. It was all about Arashi, and some NYC since they were debuting at the time. But then I didn't know about KAT-TUN at the time, so I didn't know what I was looking for, Arashi however were unavoidable, there was someone from Arashi on TV every single day! lol I did go to the Johnny's shop for fun and I think KAT-TUN and NEWS were kind of "hidden" while Arashi and the Juniors got a lot of exposure! It was a fun experience, lots of young fangirls oogling the photos and trying to decide which ones to choose! But then, I bought a couple of Arashi photos and it took me a good 30-40 min to decide [beslutsångest!!]xD (my poor friend just had to wait for me nicely, haha)
But yeah, I guess it's not as common to get into j-pop after just spending a couple of months in Japan traveling. Hey, I have several friends who studied abroad in Japan who know nothing about j-pop nor j-dramas! I think you way seems to be the most common one here in Europe. I hear a lot of people watch J-dramas - figure out a lot of them are Johnnys and get in that way! And especially HanaDan. I read about SO MANY "Jun-baited" girls xD
I think I watched Yamada Taro Monogatari first. I like Sho so my friend said she liked that drama and that Sho (and Nino - double arashi dose!) was in it. I watched A LOT of J-drama and variety after coming back from Japan since I was "free" until January when school started. But I've "only" seen about 15-20 I think since I rewatched HYD, Hana Kimi, Yamanade and some others (because they are sooooo good) and also because I've watched variety equaling 10-15 series probably. xD And to be honest I've only seen 1 or 2 dramas without a Johnnys guy! Since you've seen so many, can you give me any recommendations for my next one? :D
Okay, now I've spent to much time on LJ and other sites. Back to studying. I am almost done!! Yay!!
and I know what you mean, when I wrote my C-uppsats I had the same problem! I am not good with too much time on my hands and deadlines weeks in advance! xD But somehow I manage to work it out in the end even if the result isn't always great! So good luck with you c-uppsats as well! The feeling when finishing it is great, even if the process is quite boring!
no subject
I think that Arashi probably is the group that gets most exposure and I also think that maybe KAT-TUN didn't get so much at that time either because of the whole Jin leaving the group drama (but I think that that would be a time to promote them the most, showing that they're still a group to count on etc. I'm so excited about all the things they're doing this year to celebrate their 5 anniversary!)
I can totally understand that you had belsutsångest (it's good that we both know Swedish so that we can use it whenever we can't find the English words XP) when you were in the shop. I would too. I both dream and dread of one day walking into that shop because I'm pretty sure I'd be stuck for a quite some time >_>
Of course I can recommend you some dramas, you can start by checking out my list of dramas I've watched/am watching at the moment. http://swedish-weirdo.livejournal.com/15675.html
The list mostly contains romance/comedy dramas because that's what I go for. But there are some more dramatic things as well. A lot of school dramas are on the list XD
I'm happy to hear that you're almost done with your studies. Good girl! :D This kind of makes me motivated so I will def. "ta mig i nackskinnet" and start studying for real again on Monday :) What are you studying btw?
&hearts
no subject
Yeah, Johnny's marketing strategies are a mystery sometimes! Since I didn't know about JE and KAT-TUN at the time when Jin left I only know a little from what I've read lately. But I am with you - so excited about the 5th anniversary projects they are planning! :) I wish I could go to Japan and take part in something! >_<
The day I go back to Tokyo (and Johnnys shop) I will have an even harder time, since I would want to buy everything - being such a die hard fan now, unlike previously! haha I would probably have to go by myself so that I don't have to consider the people waiting for me. I was so stressed out by the beslutsångest last time, wanting to decide faster but not being able to! xD
I like the romance/high school/comedy genre as well! I must say that you have great taste, almost all of your favourites are favourites of mine as well! ;) I'm watching One Pound Gospel at the moment and I am loving it and Kame's character! ^^
I'm doing a master's programme to become an English teacher right now! I've studied English, Political Science and French before and that didn't really lead to much so I decided to do the teaching master. I am looking forward to having summer vacation etc. haha, it is partly true, but not the main reason! xD
Yes you have to "ta dig i nackskinnet" so you can be done with your c-uppsats, you will be so relieved afterwards! :) What are you studying?
no subject
Johnny's way of thinking sure is a mystery but one shouldn't think too much about it or you'd go crazy. I don't think anyone knows exactly how his mind works. That's the impression I've gotten at least from everything I've heard about Mr Johnny XD
If I had money I'd so go to Japan but I guess I'll have to wait and attend their 10 year anniversary unless I win a million or something on Triss XD
Kame's character in OPG is super adorable. You just can't help but laugh at/with him and love him. I've re-watched it a few times and every time it makes me go "Kyaa" Haha
Ah, so you wanna become a teacher that's cool. I actually started to study that in Karlstad but dropped out after about a semester and a half. I just felt like it wasn't my thing you =/ So then I started to study Kulturvetarprogrammet in Karlstad and had/has my major in Literature which is what I am writing my essay about. I only have my essay and a omtenta left and then I get my fil. kand. I'm thinking of studying some pedagogik in the fall though so that I have a year of that and later on might be able to work as a museepedagog. I'd love to work with something that has to do with children and culture :)
Btw, do you have twitter?
no subject
Ah - 10 year-anniversary - that's so far in the future! But that would be awesome as well. I am going to try and go this summer! My dad works for SAS so we get a sweet deal pricewise, but he is retiring in June and after that it's bye-bye benefits for me! :( So it's kind of my last chance. I've been seriously spoilt by this advantage, I don't know what I'll do now! haha, wow. But it's still a bit af a dream, we'll see if it'll be possible.^^
I never imagined myself becoming a teacher, but now I am liking the thought of it. We'll be starting VFU this spring so I guess I'll see then if it's really for me! ^^
Your plan sounds nice, I hope you make it work! I never got the hang of literary analysis. I didn't like that there was always a set view that you should share. If I interpreted something differenly from the teacher it was NG! >_< Now I enjoy reading for pleasure instead! haha
I don't have twitter, but a lot of people have been asking me about it so maybe it's time I make one! Do you have one?
no subject
Oh, I envy you for having such benefits! I'd love to have that too. I guess I'll have to marry a pilot or something XD However if you go I'll be so happy for you :D Haha, I guess I'm not very good with being envious. I wonder if I have ever been really envious for something hmm...
Anyway, with this benefits, does that mean you've been to a lot of places?
It was during VFU that I decided that teaching was not something for me. I had VFU already in my first course and was out for 3 weeks. Speak about just throwing us out into the world XD
Literature analysis can be a really painful pain in the butt sometimes but sometimes I think it's really interesting. It depends on what kind of analysis since there is quite a lot of ways to look at things.
Yes I have twitter, and I actually got my account in 2007 (I think) but never really used it until 2009 when I was taking part in a KAT-TUN related twitter project called project #eggplant. And since then I use it a lot but mostly just posting random everyday stuff and some other random stuff. If you do get a account add me. my twitter is Ztina :)

Yes, Dorsin is sometimes really funny and sometimes not at all! But in the musical he was really good! :)
Marrying a pilot would be perfect. You would get the benefits and he'll be well-paid! Double the benefits! xD I'm the same! I'm usually not really envious either. Usually I will be "good for you/I'm happy for you" as well. Lets say for example you go to a KAT-TUN concert. I might be really envious at first, but there's not really anything I can do about it so I won't dwell on it! ^^
I've been a couple of places, but I didn't really start taking advantage of it until a couple of years ago! As a family we've gone on holidays, but I never went by myself. 1. because it's not that fun to go alone, and no-one can really go with me and 2. I didn't have anyone to visit like I do now. and also, 3. it's a bit scary to go alone since these tickets are standby and I'm afraid to get stranded somewhere. ;P And now it's usually cheaper to go with Ryanair and the other low cost airlines in Europe too! ^^
haha #projecteggplant. could that have anything to do with Jin's Anan pictures!? xD I thought about getting a twitter to take part in Kame's birthday greeting, but then I didn't!
aha, ok. we'll see how I feel when I do the VFU. We're starting with 10 weeks (!) since they have to sqeeze in enough hours in 3 semesters!

About his English skill, I agree that maybe he understand english but cannot speak it (it's the same with me, because it's not my mother language). But I really love his accent when he's speaking English ♥ And if I'm not mistaken I once read about him wanting to learn British English, not American. (is this true?)
It's nice to hear that Kame was very nice and polite from someone who actually meet him. Sometimes I doubt what media tells because I couldn't know how much of that is true but I really want to believe that Kame is indeed a good person. :)
Are there any other surprising facts about other Johnny's?
no subject
nice ! she's so concern . liked her ! too generous :))
thanks for sharing !

I found you through believe to be free and a comment you made at her journal ^__^
And I felt that I wanted to comment here too! I'm also swedish! :D and I wish that I could live a bit more south in this long country and also attend lectures that holds my interest!!
I knew about Kame's english lessons. A friend of mine had (maybe still has) good contact with Marita and she told me about it back in 2007 when Marita was back from Japan. I didn't know it was because of Jin though, but it seems reasonable. :)
I would be nice to know you. I see that you and believetobefree had a long dicsussion here, haha. I would also like to add you! ^^

Kame's english lessons came as a big shock to me haha. I was like stunned and thought about it the rest of that evening. I repetaed "Jag kan fortfarande inte fatta att jag inte hört något om detta tidigare" to my friend who was with me on the lecture. She's not a Johnny's fan but she is a big Japan fan :)
You've been a KAT-TUN fan for quite some time, right? I've only been it for 2 years and 2 months (I still can't really believe that I am still this hooked into this fandom though haha)
It's been pretty awesome lately that there's been so much J-pop/culrure related things here in Göteborg. There was a convent too earlier this year but I couldn't attend it :/ But there is some other cool stuff still to look forward too :) Where in Sweden do you live?
&hearts
no subject
Hehe, yeah. First time I heard about it I thought it was really cool!
Yeah, I've been a KAT-TUN fan for 4 years now :) And I Can't believe I've been hooked this long either! XD But they're so good and so charming! ^^
I'm from Umeå. There's not so much happening here unfortunately :/ Or rather.. nothing is happening. My friend once hosted a J-pop night at Nationernas Hus (2 yers ago) but I was the only one attending who was there for the music XD I didn't knew her back then, so we became really good friends.. but yeah. Nothing since then. XD
I'm going to GBG a quickie for easter is there any cool (japanese?) store I should look into? (preferably around the avenu or nordstan area). ^_^
♥
no subject
Umeå, I've only passed by there with train on my way up to Luleå to visit one of my best friends that's studying there. J-pop night sounds really fun :D
Ah, you're coming down for Easter? That's cool. Maybe we could meet up depending on how long you're staying and if it clashes with my other plans. Why are you coming here for?
If you like manga and anime then you should visit SF bokhandeln. It's close to Nordstan and Avenyn.
But then there is this cool new shop in Haga called Kawaii Shop that has a lot of cute Japanese clothes and accessories :) There's no shop as far as I know that sell any actual j-pop things though. I hope there will be one day :)
Now I'm gonna focus on watching Andra Chansen XP
no subject
I'm not really into anime and manga so the other store sounds more interesting. ^_^ In umeå we have nothing like this so it'll be fun. It's something at least. ^_^
