Title: Special
Pairing: Masuda Takahisa x Kato Shigeaki, News Member Ai
Genre: Fluff, romance, friendship and a tiny, tiny, tiny bit of angst.

Summary: Masuda loves Valentine’s Day because he loves receiving chocolate from the people close to him but this year he is extra excited.

Usually Masuda wouldn’t be that energetic when he arrived at work early on a Monday morning but this Monday wasn’t like any other Monday. No this Monday was Valentine’s Day and that meant that most likely he would receive chocolate from everyone in his group. He had of course prepared some for them in return but he had put extra effort into the one he had made just for Shige. So when he walked into News own room in the agency it was with a big bright smile and a bag filled with home made chocolate. He wasn’t the first one to arrive but he wasn’t the last one either since neither Shige nor Ryo was there yet.
“Massu” Tegoshi beamed at him and jumped up from the worn out couch. “Happy Valentine’s day”
He handed Masuda a small package wrapped in pink shimmering paper and a silver bow on top of it.
“Thanks” Masuda said and took the package from his friend before he dug into his bag to get out the chocolate he had made for Tegoshi in return. He found it within seconds and handed it over to the other with a big smile. “Here, Happy Valentine’s to you too”
“Thank you” Tegoshi threw himself at Masuda for a quick hug before he skipped back to the couch. Masuda looked around the room and then walked over to Yamapi who was dozing off in one of the chairs. He had his earplugs in and as Masuda got closer to him he could hear the beat from the music coming through them. He dug into his bag again and took out another package which he put in Yamapi’s lap. He didn’t want to wake the other up but apparently he wasn’t careful enough because suddenly his wrist was caught by a firm hand.
“Ah, sorry” Yamapi said as he opened his eyes and then released Masuda. “I acted on reflex. What’s this?” he noticed the chocolate in his lap.
“Valentine’s choco” Masuda smiled. “Happy Valentine’s Day!”
“Ah that’s right” Yamapi rubbed the sleep out from his eyes and reached for his own bag. “I have something for you too”
Masuda looked at Yamapi with eager eyes as the other dug through the bag.
“Here. It’s nothing too special though” Yamapi handed him a not so very well wrapped package but Masuda didn’t mind. After all it was what was inside that Masuda was eager for.
“Thank you” Masuda smiled and then he walked over to where Koyama was sitting talking on the phone. He was speaking loudly and was laughing a lot. Masuda didn’t want to disturb him so he just placed the chocolate in front of Koyama. The other stopped talking for a second but then he continued on with his conversation as bent over to pick something up from his bag. Of course it was another package of chocolate and of course Masuda was just as happy for this one as the ones he had already received. He beamed and mouthed out a thank you and happy Valentines before he sat down next to Tegoshi on the couch.
When Ryo arrived he exchanged chocolate with him as well and then Shige arrived and it was time for Masuda to hand over the chocolate that mattered the most. He took the chocolate that he had paid extra attention to while preparing and then wrap in.
“Happy Valentine’s day” he said as he with the brightest of smiles handed his loved one his valentine’s chocolate.
“Thanks” Shige said politely and put the chocolate aside with a small smile. Masuda waited with eagerness for Shige to give him some in return. Nothing happened though. Shige just started to look through his cell phone and didn’t seem to notice that Masuda was still standing there. Masuda’s smile faltered slightly. Would he not receive anything from Shige? He waited for a few more minutes before he with slow, steps walked over to fall slump down on the couch again. Why wasn’t Shige giving him anything? Did he not think of them as a couple? Masuda would’ve thought that after what happened during New Years would have made them so much more than friends. At least it had seemed that way afterwards but maybe he had gotten it all wrong.
Masuda sulked the whole day and got even more down when he saw how Shige handed the other members chocolate. Why was he an exception?
It was past midnight and Masuda was in the bathroom preparing himself for bed when there was a knock on the door. He frowned slightly and wondered who it would be that would visit him at such a late hour. He went to open the door while still brushing his teeth and almost dropped the brush when he opened the door and saw Shige standing there.
“What are you doing here?” Masuda asked his words slightly muffled by the foam in his mouth.
“To give you this” Shige looked kind of awkward and nervous as he held out a beautifully decorated package with a white rose on top. Masuda blinked a few times before he carefully took the gift offered to him and wordlessly invited Shige inside the apartment. They didn’t say anything as Shige removed his shoes and jacket.
“I’ll just” Masuda said pointing at his mouth with his toothbrush. He needed to get rid of the foam to speak properly and Shige just nodded at him. Masuda soon returned from the bathroom and found that Shige had made himself comfortable in the living room. He still seemed slightly awkward though as he let his eyes wander around the room.
“Why now?” Masuda asked and sat down next to Shige and the other turned to look at him.
“Because I wanted it to be special” Shige said with a serious face and then his gaze fell down to rest on his own hands. “Giving something just because it’s expected is not really that romantic is it? I’m sorry if I acted kind of cold today though but I was so nervous and I didn’t want you to notice. I had intended to give you this tomorrow though but I felt bad thinking that maybe you’d go to bed feeling really depressed that I couldn’t stop myself from coming here now. And it’s not the 14th anymore since it’s past midnight…”
“Shige-chan” Masuda breathed out in a whisper. He had no idea that Shige was that romantic and it made him fall just a little bit more for the other. “Shige-chan” he said again as he reached out to take a hold of Shige’s hand that was now nervously fiddling with the fabric of his jeans. He intertwined their fingers and let their hands rest on top of Shige’s knee. Shige looked over at him again and their eyes locked for a short moment before they both leaned in closer so that they could meet in a kiss.
