Jin was sitting in the passenger’s seat of Kame’s car when his phone started to buzz in his jeans pocket. He quickly picked it out as he threw a quick glance at Kame who was driving them towards his parent’s house. They shared a smile before Jin turned his body around slightly towards the window and answered the call. Another smile appeared on his lips when he heard the voice of his best friend Yamapi coming from the other line.
“Oh, Hi Pi” he said throwing another glance towards Kame who was concentrating on driving and humming along to the music coming from the radio.
“What’s up?” Pi asked and Jin could hear the sound of people in the background. He figured Pi had just finished work or something since he thought he could make out the sound of Ryo’s and Tegoshi’s voices in the noise.
“I’m with Kame on the way to his parents’ house” Jin replied and couldn’t help but glance over at Kame again as a fluttering feeling started to spread out through his body.
“You are? That’s too bad.” Yamapi said but didn’t sound too disappointed.
“How so?” Jin wondered tapping his free hand against the window in time with the music.
“I had wanted to invite you out clubbing with me and the troop” Yamapi answered. “But I guess it’s kind of useless now huh? Because there’s no way you’ll come along, right?”
“None at all” Jin grinned “If you’d called earlier I might have”
“Yeah, so how come you’re going with Kame-chan to his parents place?” Yamapi sounded really curious.
“Oh, I asked if I could tag along when I heard how he mentioned going over there for dinner tonight” Jin threw another glance at Kame and smiled. “And he was okay with it so”
“Really?” Yamapi chuckled slightly “I never thought I actually would hear you ever say no to a night out clubbing for a family dinner. You really have it bad, huh?”
“What do you mean?” Jin was confused over his best friend’s last comment.
“Nothing, nothing” Yamapi chuckled again and Jin could almost see in front of him how his best friend was waving it all off with his hand. “Well, have a nice evening and say hello to both Kame-chan and his parents for me, will ya?”
“Sure, and you do the same with the guys” Jin replied before they said good bye and hung up.
“What did Yamapi want?” Kame asked as Jin put his phone back into his pocket.
“He just wanted to invite me out clubbing” Jin replied with a smile. “But I declined”
“Why?” Kame seemed surprised as he glanced over at Jin. “I thought you loved clubbing and never said no to a night out?”
“Yeah, well things change and anyway aren’t we on our way to dinner at your parents house?” Jin smiled again. “There’s no way I would ditch them like that in the last minute. Your parents are probably waiting with anticipation for my arrival”
“Very funny” Kame smirked. “But yeah, my mum sounded happy when I called and said I would bring you with me.”
“It’s been a while since I last saw her huh?” Jin said as he glanced over and their eyes locked for a short moment.
“Yeah, it has” Kame smiled.
A while later Jin found himself standing by the kitchen counter talking to Mrs. Kamenashi while she was preparing the dinner. He had offered to help her but she had declined it with a soft smile and just told him to relax. Kame himself was outside in the garden together with his father and his youngest brother playing catch. Their voices and laughter was sipping in through the open window together with a soft early summer’s breeze.
“So, how is everything with your parents?” Mrs. Kamenashi asked while stirring the content in one of the pots on the stove.
“They’re good, really good actually” Jin smiled “I’m going to pay them a visit on Sunday.”
“I’m happy to hear. And I guess everything’s is good with your younger brother as well?” she continued on as she looked up from the pots.
“Yeah, and he got himself a new girlfriend recently. He seems happy” Jin said and then threw a glance out the kitchen window where he could see a laughing Kame.
“That’s really good news, but how about you? Are you seeing anyone right now?” Mrs. Kamenashi lowered the heat on the stove and looked over at Jin.
“No, not really no” Jin replied feeling a bit self-conscious under her curious eyes.
“Really?” she asked but she didn’t sound that surprised and Jin almost got the feeling that she was happy over those news.
“Yeah” Jin replied throwing yet another glance out the window and smiled. Kame looked so happy playing together with his younger brother and their dad.
“Well I’m sure you’ll find someone soon” She had a knowing smile on her lips when Jin turned back to face her. “Love often finds you when you least expect it, and more than often it’s been right in front of your very eyes the whole time”
“What do you mean?” Jin was a bit confused over her comment and the way she was smiling at him. Smiling like she knew something he didn’t.
“You’ll understand what I mean one day” she said turning back to the pots and pans with that knowing look still upon her face.
A week later Jin found himself hanging out with Kame outside of work again, but this time they were at Kame’s apartment. They weren’t alone though, Kame’s niece was there too since Kame was going to babysit her for his older brother. Jin had overheard Kame tell Koki about his Friday night plans and without thinking first Jin had asked if he could come over and keep him company. Kame hadn’t been able to hide his surprise but said yes nonetheless with a soft smile on his lips. It was first after he had made the plans with Kame that he remembered that he already had plans with Yamapi and the rest of their usual party friends. He had quickly sent his best friend a message faking sickness without feeling the least bit guilty.
So here he was now, keeping Kame’s niece company in the living room while Kame was busy in the kitchen making their dinner. Jin had always loved the company of children and this little girl was just as cute and adorable as Kame so he really had no problem playing with her. He had only met her twice before, but that was two years ago so she had obviously not recognized him. That didn’t stop her from greeting him with a hug and then feeling totally comfortable sitting in Jin’s lap while they worked on a drawing together for Kame-chan.
They had been drawing for about half an hour when the delicious smell of Kame’s cooking started to linger into the living room and teasing their taste buds.
“It smells yummy, ne?” Jin asked the little girl in his lap as he took a deep breath.
“Chuchu-nii’s food always smells yummy” the girl replied as she reached for a red crayon. “I love Chuchu-nii’s food”
“We’re quite a like then” Jin smiled at the girl “Because I love his food too”
“I love everything about him” the girl replied drawing a big red heart on the paper in front of her.
“I lov-“ Jin stopped himself midsentence as he realized what he was about to say and his eyes widen in surprise. Love? Did he love Kame? Jin felt how his mind went fuzzy at the thought and his heart to beat faster. Well of course he loved Kame, he was a great friend and they’d known each others for ages, that’s all, right?
“Why did you stop talking, Jin-kun?” the little girl in his lap asked and brought Jin back from his drifting thoughts.
“Ah, uh…” Jin had no idea what to answer and thankfully he didn’t need to give one since Kame called them from the kitchen telling them that the dinner was ready.
They were halfway through dinner and Kame’s niece was happily telling them about how her day at pre-school had been when Jin’s phone started to ring. Jin excused himself with a sheepish smile and then quickly went to get his phone from his coat pocket in the hall.
“You don’t sound sick at all” Ryo’s voice came from the other end of the line after Jin had answered the call.
“I…” Jin fake coughed and tried to make his voice sound hoarse. “I really am sick”
“Oh cut it off Jin” Ryo snapped. “You’re faking it so just tell why you’re ditching clubbing with us for the second time in a row”
“But I really am sick” Jin protested and stamped one of his feet down stubbornly to mark his point even if he knew Ryo couldn’t see him.
“No you’re not” Ryo retorted. “So spit it out. What could you possibly find more fun to do on a Friday night than clubbing? Maybe you perhaps are starting to feel too old for an all-nighter?”
“The hell I am” Jin said offended by the comment. “And if you so badly want to know, I am helping Kazu babysit his niece”
“You’re what?” Ryo didn’t even try to hold back his laughter. “You’re spending your night babysitting? I can’t believe it, you really do have it bad if you chose that over clubbing and I just thought Yamapi was joking around when he told me about your crush”
“What crush?” Jin was confused. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“You really are a baka” Ryo said and Jin could almost imagine how his friend was rolling his eyes at him. “Well, I’ll leave you for now but you better make up for ditching us”
Before Jin got the chance to say anything more Ryo had already hung up on him. Jin just shrugged as he put his phone back into this coat pocket and then he returned to the kitchen.
An hour later Jin was sitting in front of Kame’s TV. Kame was in his bedroom putting the girl to bed since it was long past her bedtime already. Jin could hear Kame’s soft voice as he was telling her a bedtime story. He smiled as he heard how the little girl giggled at something she found funny in the story. Kame really was a great uncle and he would most likely make a great dad someday in the future if he ever found someone to share his life with. As far as Jin knew Kame hadn’t dated anyone for over 2 years now and Jin couldn’t help but wonder why. Kame never even talked about girls much anymore, except if it was for an interview or if someone brought it up but he still never said much on the matter...
Jin had fallen deep in his thoughts about Kame’s apparently nonexistent love life and didn’t realize that Kame had came to join him on the couch until he felt the other sit down next to him.
“What are you watching?” Kame asked as he reached over to grab the blanket lying on the armchair next to the couch.
“Oh, I have no idea really” Jin replied as he turned from looking at Kame to face the TV screen where their faces suddenly appeared in some TV commercial.
“Wanna watch a movie then?” Kame asked putting away the blanket on the armrest of the couch.
“Sure” Jin smiled and the thought of watching a movie with Kame, with the possibility of maybe sharing a blanket somehow made Jin feel strangely giddy.
“Okay, the movies are over there” Kame got back up from the couch and pointed at one of his bookcases. “You can choose what to watch while I go and get us something to drink and some popcorn”
Jin simply nodded in reply and heaved himself up from the couch and walked up to the shelf as Kame left the room again. Soon Jin could hear the sound of corn pooping in the kitchen as he started to explore Kame’s movie collection. It wasn’t a really big one, and it mostly contained of what looked like romantic love stories but with one or another horror or comedy thrown in here and there. Nothing seemed to really grab Jin’s attention though and he still hadn’t decided when Kame returned a few minutes later.
“Found anything you’d like to watch?” Kame asked placing the bowl of popcorn on the table. “I know that my collection might not be of your taste but…”
“This one” Jin interrupted Kame as he was about to leave the room again to get the drinks. Jin had grabbed one of the movies on random and showed it to Kame who just gave him an amused smile before he left the room. Jin looked down at the movie in his head and saw that he had picked out some Korean movie that he had no idea what it was about and the cover didn’t tell him much either. He shrugged his shoulders slightly as he walked over to the DVD-player and kneeled down in front of it to put on the movie. He had just gotten the DVD going when Kame returned once again, and this time with two cans of soft drinks and a can of beer.
“I didn’t know what you’d want to drink so I brought you two options” Kame commented as he sat down and put the cans on the table. “I myself never drink any alcohol when my niece is over but you can drink if you want. I know how much you enjoy a beer on a Friday night”
“Thanks” Jin smiled as he grabbed the remote control belonging to the player and then sat down next to the other. Kame grabbed the blanket from before and without any hesitation he spread it out over the both of them. Jin pressed play on the remote and as the movie started to play he opened up the can of beer and made himself more comfortable underneath the blanket.
“I’m surprised over your choice of movie” Kame commented reaching for the popcorn bowl and placed it between them. “But it’s good choice, I really love this one”
Jin didn’t know what to reply so he just stuffed his mouth with popcorn and gave the TV screen his full attention. He felt how Kame shuffled slightly next to him to get into a more comfortable position and before he knew it he had Kame’s head leaning slightly against his shoulder. Jin got slightly startled at the sudden touch but didn’t say anything, after all it felt nice. A grin spread out all across his face and he felt genuinely happy.
Jin woke up by someone poking his cheek the next morning. He tried to fend the intruding fingers away but stopped when he heard the soft giggles coming out from the person. He opened his eyes and smiled as he saw the cute little girl standing in front of him.
“It’s time to get up Jin-kun” the girl giggled trying to poke Jin again on the cheek but Jin managed to grab her small hand in his. She giggled even more and Jin pulled her up on top of him where he was lying on the couch with the blanket covering him.
“Haven’t you learned that it is not nice waking someone up that way?” Jin asked poking her cheek.
“But Chuchu-nii told me to do it” she said straddling Jin’s chest. “He said that that would be the only way to wake you up”
“Really?” Jin quirked one of his eyebrows and the girl nodded. “Where is he now?”
“He’s in the kitchen making breakfast” she answered and then slided down from Jin. “That’s why I had to wake you up”
“Oh, well I guess I should get up then” Jin smiled and sat up on the couch, stretching his arms above his head as the girl sprinted out to the kitchen where Jin could now hear Kame whistling while cooking. He heaved himself up from the couch and folded the blanket before he followed the girl into the other room.
“Good morning Kazu” Jin said as he sat down by the kitchen table.
“Morning Jin” Kame replied with a smile as he placed some plates with food on the table. “I hope your back doesn’t hurt from sleeping on the couch. I tried to wake you up last night but you slept like a log”
“Nah, it is okay” Jin replied licking his lips slightly as he looked at the food in front of him. It looked delicious and Jin realized how hungry he was.
“What are we going to do today?” Kame’s niece asked as she sat down on the chair next to Jin.
“Your mum and dad are going to pick you up in an hour” Kame replied taking a seat as well. “But I heard your mum talking about taking you to the zoo today”
“The zoo?” the little girl’s face lit up like the sun and neither Jin nor Kame could help but chuckle at her.
“Yeah, the zoo” Kame said before he clapped his hands together and said in a soft voice: “Itadakimasu”
The others two followed Kame’s example and soon they were all eating their breakfast happily. As always Kame’s cooking was delicious and Jin was sure to let Kame know it and making the other blush slightly by the compliment.
“So what are you going to do today?” Jin asked making sure to swallow before he talked since there was a child present.
“I’m meeting with Tegoshi-kun and Uchi-kun for lunch and shopping later” Kame replied and Jin couldn’t help but cringe slightly at the mention of the youngest News member. He did however not say anything since he knew it wouldn’t make Kame happy if he insulted his friend.
“Yeah, I know how you feel about Tegoshi-kun” Kame smirked. “And I’m happy that you keep your mouth shut, Jin. So what are your plans for your free day?”
“Oh, nothing. I would’ve asked if you wanted to hang out but...” Jin shrugged and suddenly feeling down over the fact that Kame already had other plans.
“Can’t Jin-kun come with you Chuchu-nii?” the little girl on Jin’s left side asked as she finished of her plate with fried rice.
“Of course he can, if he wanted to” Kame smiled at the girl before he looked over at Jin and their eyes locked for a moment.
“Don’t you want to Jin-kun?” Kame’s niece turned around in her seat and faced Jin. He didn’t really know what to answer at first because he really didn’t want to disappoint her but at the same time he really wouldn’t be able to handle being with Tegoshi in more than a few minutes. Suddenly a thought struck him and he knew how to answer her.
“I’d love too but I just remembered that I have made lunch plans with Yamapi and Ryo” Jin smiled and ruffled her hair slightly. “I’ve promised to treat them”
He would have to make sure to call them later and turn the white lie into truth, and he was sure he would be able to do so.
“Are they your friends?” she asked tilting her head cutely to the side.
“Yeah they’re some of my best friends” Jin smiled again as he reached for his cup of coffee.
“I have best friends too” she smiled and then started telling them about her best friends in pre-school.
A few hours later Jin was rushing towards the restaurant where he had made plans with Ryo and Yamapi to meet up. He was running a bit late, not that it really mattered because he was known to turn up late but he still cursed himself over it. He had taken more time than necessary making himself ready at Kame’s place by taking a shower and changing into some cloths of Kame’s. The only clothes that had fitted him though were a worn out red t-shirt with the American flag. He had recognized it as one he had bought to Kame when he was in LA. He had been surprised that it was so worn out since he had never seen Kame wearing it and before they both left for meeting up different people, Kame had made him promise that he would give the t-shirt back with a serious expression on his face.
“Yo Jin” Yamapi smiled as Jin came up to him and Ryo who’d been waiting in front of the store. Ryo just gave him a nod before he pushed the door open for them all.
“I hope you brought a lot of money” Ryo commented as they came into the restaurant that was buzzing with people. “Because I’m hungry and you’re paying”
“I know” Jin said shrugging off his coat as they made their way towards an empty table in one of the corners of the room.
“Is that a new shirt?” Yamapi asked eyeing Jin’s chest. “It doesn’t look new though.”
“It’s not mine” Jin replied unconsciously brushing his hand over the soft fabric. “I borrowed it from Kame”
“You stayed over last night?” Ryo asked with a grin.
“Yeah, I fell asleep on his couch while we were watching some movie” Jin answered not taking notice of the grins that were decorating his best friends’ faces. “And I didn’t have time to get back home before I got here so I borrowed his shower and this shirt from him”
“That’s all? Nothing happened? You didn’t take your chance?” Yamapi asked leaning back in his chair and grabbing a hold of his menu.
“Huh?” Jin looked at his friend with confusion written all over his face. “What chance? You two are saying such weird things nowadays, and not only you. Kame’s mother was weird as well last week”
“What did Mrs. Kamenashi say?” Yamapi asked not even bothering to hide his curiosity.
“Don’t remember the exact words” Jin said thoughtfully “but something about finding love unexpectedly and it often being right in front of you. I have no idea what she wanted to say me with that and she had this knowing smile on her face. She kept on giving it to me all through the evening”
Ryo and Yamapi exchanged gazes and tried their best not to let out their snickers but a small one escaped from Yamapi.
“What’s so funny?” Jin asked frowning slightly as he started to wave the waitress over.
“You and your utterly clueless mind” Ryo replied with a smirk. “I really hope you’ll be able put all the pieces together soon. Kame has probably already figured it out and waiting for you to do the same”
“Huh?” Jin blinked dumbly at them and feeling more and more confused as he tried to understand what Ryo meant. His brain working on overdrive as he tried to figure out what pieces that he was meant to put together. The smirks on his best friends faces didn’t really help him much either. For a second he almost wished that he had gone with Kame instead because his friends were more annoying now than Jin could ever remember Tegoshi being. The thought of Kame made Jin smile for himself and he wondered what Kame was doing right now. He lost himself in thoughts about possible scenarios; from trying on tight fitting jeans to giving Tegoshi and Uchi fashion advices. He was brought back to reality with a startle by Yamapi poking him on his cheek.
“What’s with all the poking today” Jin muttered swatting Yampi’s hand away just in time for the waitress he had waved at earlier to arrive at their table to take their orders.
A few days later Jin was hanging out in the dressing room that KAT-TUN was borrowing for today’s photo shot. The rest of the group minus Kame was there as well and as usual they all mostly did whatever they felt like. Taguchi was playing on his Nintendo DS, crying out in frustrations every now and then. Koki was busy writing something, probably lyrics to a new rap while Nakamaru was working on his laptop and Ueda was reading some magazine. Jin himself was just looking around the room and wondering when Kame was going to turn up again. He had been called out by the stylist just a moment ago and somehow Jin felt like he was missing Kame. Jin had just decided to get up from his seat to look for Kame when the other walked back into the room with a new shirt in his hand.
“Hey” Jin said and couldn’t help but smile at Kame which earned him a smile back. “What did the stylist want?”
“He just wanted me to change shirt to this one” Kame replied holding up the shirt for Jin to see.
“Ah, okay. It looks nice” Jin commented with a short nod.
“Hmm, yeah” Kame put the new shirt away on one of the chairs in the room before he started to unbutton the shirt he was wearing. Jin was still looking in Kame’s direction and found himself unable to move his eyes away from the younger one. He didn’t realize what he was doing until Kame threw a glance in Jin’s direction and their eyes met for a brief moment. Jin felt a blush creep up on his face and he quickly diverted his eyes in another direction, trying to act as if he had not been caught staring. He heard Kame let out a soft chuckle but the younger didn’t say anything and Jin was thankful for that. He really didn’t need the rest of their group to find out about it especially when he didn’t know why he had done it in the first place. He worked up some courage and carefully glanced over at Kame again only to find that Kame had now removed his shirt. He was leaning against the table in front of the mirror and looking at his reflection fixing his hair slightly. His position gave Jin a very good view of his backside and Jin’s eyes ended up zooming in on Kame’s butt. They lingered there for a while until Kame straightened up and grabbed his new shirt from the chair next to him. Jin quickly diverted his eyes in another direction again and ended up meeting Ueda’s gaze. The older one gave him an amused and knowing smile and there was no doubt about it that Ueda had caught him staring. He blushed again, this time even deeper than before and he mentally hit himself over the head. Why did he keep on staring on Kame for?
Hours later after they’d finished with their photo shot they were once again back in the dressing room. They were all busy packing and making themselves ready to get home since none of them had any more work appointed for the day.
“Hey, you guys?” Kame’s said looking up from the bag.
“Yeah what is it Kame?” Nakamaru asked as they all looked in Kame’s direction.
“I got a few free tickets from Miyao-kun to his new ballet performance” Kame said showing them all the tickets. “It’s for this Saturday and I was wondering if maybe any of you’d want to come with me. It’s suppose to be really good”
“I’ll go with you” the words spilled out from Jin so quickly that it surprised both himself and everybody else in the room.
“Really? You wanna go and watch ballet on a Saturday night?” Koki asked not even trying to hide the fact that the whole thought amused him truthfully.
“Yeah, why not” Jin shrugged trying to sound nonchalant. “I mean, I have no other plans as of yet so”
“Okay, anyone else that wants to come with us” Kame said giving Jin a small smile. “I have two more extra tickets”
Everyone else declined, already having plans and somehow that made Jin feeling relieved. He liked his band mates, but somehow he felt like if anyone of them had decided to tag along it would be a disturbance. They would be in the way but for what Jin had no idea.
Saturday came quicker than Jin had thought and with only a few hours left to the time Kame would come and pick him up Jin started to feel nervous. Yamapi had rudely barged into Jin’s apartment a while ago and was now sitting on Jin’s bed watching his best friend going through every piece of clothing he had in his wardrobe.
“You seem awfully nervous” Yamapi commented while snickering slightly. “It’s almost as if you’re preparing yourself for date”
“It’s not a date” Jin replied throwing off the shirt he was currently wearing. “And I am not nervous. I’m just not sure of what to wear when you going to watch a ballet. I mean it is pretty fancy isn’t it? So should I wear like a full out suit with tie and all? Or should I go with a more casual look but still look kind of dressed up? I should’ve asked Kame about it”
“Then why don’t you just call and ask him about it now?” Yamapi suggested as Jin was bringing out one of the few suites he owned and examined it. He hadn’t worn that suit in a long time. He wasn’t even sure if it suited him anymore.
“I can’t do that!” Jin replied turning around to face his friend. “It would give sucha a bad impression doing it so close to the start of the da-, I mean meeting”
“Since when did you start to worry about how you come across in front of Kame?” Yamapi smirked. “Since... since...” Jin had no idea what to answer because he didn’t know. He had never cared what anyone really thought about him because what you see is what you get right?
“You really are so stupid at times that I wonder how I’ve managed to put up with you over all these years”
“Oi” Jin felt slightly offended even though he was used to be called things like that. He knew he wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed but he was not stupid, he was just a little slow sometimes. And wasn’t that one of the things that they all loved about him anyway?
At exactly 7pm there was a knock on Jin’s door and he quickly got up from his couch in the living room where he had been sitting and waiting for Kame to arrive the last 15 minutes. He had shoved Yamapi out the door a while ago after he thought that Yamapi had been annoying him enough. He also hadn’t wanted Yamapi to be there when Kame arrived. Jin looked himself in the hallway mirror before he opened the door. He was quite happy with what he had done to his appearance. He had after an hour of going through his clothes, finally decided on a pair of un-ripped, dark blue jeans, an olive green button-up shirt and his favourite black jacket. A casual yet a little bit dressed up look. He smiled at his own reflection before he turned around and opened the door.
“You’re right on time as always.” Jin said and received a smirk back from Kame.
“Yeah, are you ready?” Kame asked as he stepped inside and Jin closed the door behind him.
“Just need to get my wallet” Jin replied letting his eyes travel up and down Kame’s body discreetly. He was wearing similar clothing to Jin, but his shirt was a soft shade of pink and his jeans was black and was slicking to Kame’s body like a second skin. There was no doubt about it that Kame was looking really good tonight. Like really, really good. Jin wondered for how long time it had taken Kame to decide on that outfit. Probably not that long since he was a natural when it came to picking out the right outfit for any occasion.
“So go get it then” Kame interrupted Jin’s trail of thoughts.
“Huh?” Jin replied dumbly before he realized what Kame meant. “Yeah, right, the wallet”
Jin quickly turned around and made it for the bedroom to get his stuff only to be back a minute later.
“Let’s go then” Kame smiled as he opened the door behind him. Jin smiled back and with that they left the apartment.
They had been driving for a few minutes, when Jin happened to throw a glance at the backseat and he noticed a bouquet of flowers lying there.
“What are the flowers for?” He asked getting Kame to stop humming along to the song playing on the radio.
“Ah, they’re for Shun-chan” Kame explained giving Jin a soft smile. “I thought I should sneak backstage afterwards and give it to him”
“Ah, of course” Jin said and then something struck him. “Should I have brought something as well?”
“Nah, no need to” Kame replied “I mean, it’s not like you’ve met him, right? But if you want you can write your name on the card but it seriously isn’t necessary. But if you really want to you should. I have a pen in my bag, it’s in the backseat so if you want you can reach for it and –“
“You’re rambling” Jin interrupted Kame and gave the younger one an amused smile. Kame rarely rambled like that, so it was pretty amusing whenever it happened.
“Oh, sorry” Kame out of reflex bowed his head slightly at Jin. “But if you want to you can-“
“I rather not” Jin interrupted the other again. “It would just feel wrong doing so”
“Oh, okay” Kame nodded and then started humming along with the song currently playing on the radio.
“Are we having dinner after the show?” Jin wondered as he suddenly realized they hadn’t talked further on what to do on their date outing.
“Yeah” Kame replied sounding rather surprised over the question. “Didn’t I tell you yesterday that I booked us a table at this Italian restaurant close to the theatre?”
“Italian?” Jin’s face lit up. “You never said anything about that”
“Oh, it must’ve slipped my mind” Kame frowned slightly. “Well, now you know”
“Are you going to invite Miyao-san along with us?” Jin asked hoping that the answer would be no.
“I hadn’t planned to but if you want we could ask him” Kame said not the least sounding like he liked the idea of that. Jin couldn’t help but wonder why since Kame and Miyao had become pretty good friends during their drama filming a while ago.
“No, it’s okay. I just thought that maybe you’d asked him since you’re friends and he invited you to his performance.”
“Ah, well I didn’t think of that because I thought that he’d probably be busy” Kame gave Jin a lopsided smile as he pulled the car into a parking lot. “I mean he probably have plans with his girlfriend. So, we’re here”
A few hours later they were sitting at a table in one of the more secluded areas in the restaurant. The ballet had been much better than Jin had imagined it to be and he had found himself mesmerized at how beautiful it was. And when they went backstage, Jin had almost regretted not bringing anything to give to Miyao, because that had guy deserved it, and not only because he was a great dancer but he was a great guy as well. But even so Jin was happy that they didn’t ask if he wanted to have dinner with them because Jin really wanted to be alone with Kame. He didn’t want anyone to disturb this perfect Saturday evening.
The restaurant Kame had brought him to was really cosy with an romantic atmosphere and it made Jin wonder slightly why Kame had chosen it. All around the place couples of all ages were sitting, most of them were gazing lovingly into each other’s eyes. It made Jin feeling kind of nervous while Kame on the other hand seemed totally calm and collected.
“So, would you mind if we shared the dessert?” Kame asked after he had finished of everything on his plate. “Because I don’t think I would be able to eat a whole one by myself?”
“Share?” Jin repeated not really sure what to think about the suggestion. Isn’t that something couples do?
“Yeah, well if you don’t want to” Kame smiled softly arranging his flatware “I guess I’ll just eat as much as I can and leave the rest”
“No, we can share. It’s totally okay” Jin smiled back copying Kame’s move by arranging his flatware as well. “I just got a bit surprised over you suggesting it since I don’t usually do that with friends”
“I understand” Kame chuckled slightly and suddenly he seemed a bit shy. “Of course we will use different spoons so it’s not like you know...”
“Yeah” Jin smiled but he wasn’t quite sure what Kame meant but he figured it didn’t matter much.
“So, I’ve heard that the panna cotta here is to die for” Kame said fiddling with his glass of iced tea. Since he had brought his car with him he had decided to not get any wine and stay sober.
“To die for?” Jin quirked his eyebrows in amusement “It was a long time since I heard anyone use that choice of words”
“I’m just using the same phrasing as Tegoshi-kun did when he told me about this place” Kame replied.
“Tegoshi-kun told you about this place?” Jin repeated.
“Yeah, that’s what I just said” Kame rolled his eyes slightly. “He told me about this place last weekend. He said it was a really romantic place and that he’d been here with his girlfriend, and the both of them really enjoyed the panna cotta. So I suggest we try it out too but if you want to have something else that is perfectly fine with me as well”
“No, no. We can try it. I mean panna cotta is always good right?” Jin smiled. “And that was the second time you started rambling tonight”
“Sorry” Kame said and Jin thought he saw a blush appear on Kame’s face but he wasn’t sure since the only light around them was the candles on the tables. A moment later a waitress arrived to pick up their empty plates and they took the opportunity to order the “to die for” panna cotta.
“Oh shit, this really is something to die for” Jin exclaimed as the creamy dessert melted in his mouth. Kame let out a small laughter as Jin quickly spooned up some more and then shoved it into Kame’s mouth. Kame obviously stopped laughing as his mouth closed around the spoon and Jin slowly retrieved the spoon as he started to realize what he had just done. They had just shared an indirect kiss, hadn’t they? He let out a nervous giggle not daring to look at Kame but Kame didn’t seem to have realized the impact of Jin’s action or maybe he didn’t care?
“Oh my” Kame said in an almost whisper and he looked like he was in a daze. “You’re right. This is amazingly good”
“Yeah” Jin was still a bit nervous but was slowly calming down and he moved his hand to get some more panna cotta. Kame picked up his own spoon and as he took another taste of the dessert he let out what could only be described as a small moan. Jin stared at Kame with bewilderment; the dessert was good but not that good right? Not good enough for someone to let out small sounds of pleasure; sounds that stirred something in Jin’s lower body. Jin slowly moved his own spoon to his mouth as he continued to study Kame’s facial expression with fascination. It wasn’t everyday you got to see Kame’s face expressing this kind of pleasure and thinking that something as petty as panna cotta could cause it. Then just imagine what Kame would look like during sex, his face would probably look like this times a hundred... Jin’s eyes widen in shock. He did not just think that. He shook his head violently to get rid of the mental image of Kame naked as he felt how his face and body grew hot.
“What’s wrong Jin?” Kame said reaching out a hand to place it on top of Jin’s on the table. That action didn’t make Jin feel any less hot and bothered than he already was but he tried his best to hide his condition.
“I’m...” Jin voice came out a bit hoarse “I’m okay”
“Really?” Kame asked and Jin felt how the other’s eyes were examining his face closely.
“Yeah, I think it’s just the alcohol that’s suddenly kicked in” Jin lied his eyes falling down on Kame’s hand that was still lying on top of his. Even though the touch made him feel all weird it still felt nice and Jin found himself hoping that Kame would let his hand stay there until they decided to leave.
“Oh, okay” Kame smiled but Jin could still tell that the other didn’t believe him but had decided to not push it. Jin was thankful for that because he really didn’t know what he would’ve done or said if Kame had decided to interrogate him.
Kame stopped the car in front of Jin’s apartment complex and turned the engine off.
“I’ll follow you to the door” Kame said opening the car door on his side. Jin didn’t reply because he didn’t know what to say so he just followed Kame out from the car. Once Jin had gone out from the car and slammed the door shut Kame locked it and then they walked up to the entrance of the building. They walked in silence but every now and then they threw glances at each other’s, sharing soft and sort of shy smiles. Jin couldn’t help but feel as if he was being walked to the door after a date and that made him feel giddy even though he was certain that this had not been a date.
“So, it has been a nice evening” Jin smiled once they reached his apartment door. “I had lots of fun”
“Yeah? So you really enjoyed the ballet?” Kame asked licking his lips, and Jin knew that Kame was feeling nervous.
“Yeah, I have never seen anything like it before” Jin assured Kame as he unlocked his door. “I would love to do something like this again.”
“I’m happy” Kame smiled and Jin smiled back over his shoulder as he opened the door.
“I’m happy too” Jin replied. “So, I’ll see you on Monday?”
“Yeah, Good night” Kame licked his lips again and then leaned his face in closer to Jin and placed a chaste kiss on the other’s cheek. Jin froze in place for a second but it was a second too long because when he unfroze again Kame had already disappeared. Jin could hear the sound of Kame’s steps as he quickly made his way down the stairs. Jin brought a hand up to touch the place where Kame had kissed him and a smile slowly started to spread on his lips. The beat of his heart increased and he felt happy. He felt extremely happy for something as simple as a kiss on the cheek. But why had Kame done it? Was Kame in love with him? Jin didn’t know but what he did know was that the thought of Kame loving him like that made him feel great. And with a big smile on his face Jin went to bed.
The next day Jin woke up late, since he didn’t have any kind of work he could take the luxury of something like that. He had a long breakfast containing of cereals and milk in front of the TV. The smile that he had gone to bed with was still there and he figured he probably must’ve looked like a fool. After that he took a shower and brushed his teeth. While he pressed some toothpaste onto his toothbrush he started to sing. He was half way through brushing his teeth when he realized what song it was and blinked at his own reflection. Since when did he know the lyrics to Special Happiness? As far as he knew he had never sung that song before. He shrugged and then continued on with brushing his teeth while singing. The song stayed in his head as he finished with his teeth and then continued on with dressing himself. He frowned when he saw the mess in his wardrobe and then he frowned even deeper when he realized how messy the whole room was. And on the spot he decided that he would spend his day cleaning.
Hours later Jin had managed to clean not only his bedroom but the kitchen, the living room and the bathroom. He felt really proud over himself as he plopped himself down on his couch. He was tired but contented. He couldn’t remember the last time he had worked so hard without really needing to do so, probably years ago. He brought out his phone from his pocket to check the time but before realizing it he had the phone pressed to his ear and heard the call going through.
“Kamenashi Kazuya” a voice on the other end answered.
“Kazu, it’s Jin” He smiled at hearing Kame’s voice.
“Oh, hi Jin” Kame sounded a bit nervous and Jin remembered what had happened last night. “Why did you call for?”
“Oh, I just felt like it. What are you doing?” Jin asked adjusting his position on the couch so that he was lying down and facing the ceiling.
“I just got back home from a walk” Kame replied and Jin could almost see how the other was smiling. “I meet this really nice old man. We talked about baseball for a while and I felt really happy. I love meetings like that”
“He didn’t recognize you?” Jin wondered a bit amused.
“No, not at all”
“That’s nice. So how did you end up talking to him?”
“He asked me to help him out carrying this big box from his car and we got talking. He noticed my baseball cap. It really was nice; I really do like encounters like that. He even treated me to a cup of coffee. So what have you done today?”
“Ah, I’ve actually cleaned my whole apartment” Jin said proudly and threw a glance across the room.
“Really?” Kame sounded surprised and Jin couldn’t blame him for it.
“Yeah, I had first only thought about cleaning my room but once I started I couldn’t stop”
“I’m so proud of you Jin” Kame said and he surely did sound like he was proud. He sounded like a proud mum or dad or maybe even a proud girlfriend.
“So am I”
“You must be hungry after working so hard”
“Now that you say it” Jin’s stomach grumbled.
“I’ll come over and make you something then. I’ll be there in a few, bye!”
Jin didn’t get the chance to react before Kame had hung up on him. Why in the world would Kame come over and make food for him just like that? Jin pondered as he put his phone back into his pocket and then once again he remembered what happened last night. Kame was obviously in love with him.
Half an hour later there was a knock on Jin’s front door. Jin quickly pulled on a T-shirt as he made his way out from the bathroom. He had taken a quick shower to freshen himself up.
“Welcome” he greeted with a smile. “Come on in”
“Thanks” Kame smiled back as he walked inside with two bags of groceries in his hands. “I didn’t really know what to make you so I bought a lot of different things. You can look through the bags and decide on what you’d like.”
“Why are you doing here really?” Jin had to ask because he still found it really weird that Kame had just decided to come over just like that even if it was for his love for Jin.
“To make you something to eat” Kame answered handing Jin the bags before he kneeled down to take off his shoes. “I mean, you were hungry, and I’m a bit hungry as well so I just thought that we could eat together...”
“So it isn’t because you’re in love with me then?” Jin asked bluntly and Kame who was kneeling down on the floor froze for a second.
“So you’ve finally figured it out huh?” Kame replied turning his face upwards to meet Jin’s eyes.
“Yeah, you giving me a kiss last night kind of gave you away” Jin smiled back as a feeling of happiness was spreading throughout his body, starting in his heart.
“Since you hadn’t picked up on any of my hints that I liked you back I thought I should do something drastic?” Kame got back up from the floor.
“Like you back?” Jin repeated as he slowly started to realize his own feelings. He started to realize a lot of things. Like why he felt so happy when Kame had given him that kiss or why Kame’s smile could make him feel all giddy and making his whole body warm up or why he had loved the feeling of Kame’s hand on top of his hand or why he had ditched clubbing for being with Kame or why he had found himself checking out Kame’s body. He was in love with the younger one! He had fallen for his band mate and long time friend. A big silly grin spread across Jin’s face as he had finally put all the pieces together.
“You just realized that you liked me now, didn’t you?” Kame asked and brought Jin out from his thoughts.
“Yeah...” Jin felt a bit stupid but the grin didn’t disappear from his face. “I just did. It seems like everyone else knew about it before me. Even your mum seem to have done so”
“My mum?” Kame raised an eyebrow at Jin as he took the bags from Jin again.
“Yeah, she said something about love finding you when you least expect it” Jin replied. “And how love often is right in front of you, she must’ve meant you, right?”
“Oh...” Kame blushed and mumbled something as he made his way into the kitchen. Jin just smiled as he followed the younger one.
“So, are we like dating now or something?” Jin asked as he watched Kame preparing the food. Jin had decided that he wanted curry rice and the smell from the cooking was slowly taking over the kitchen.
“Yeah, I guess. If you want to that is.” Kame replied softly while stirring the curry with a wooden spoon. He didn’t even turn his head to face Jin which made the other frown for a second.
“Of course I want to” Jin replied getting up from his chair.
“I’m happy to hear that” Kame replied back as Jin walked up behind him.
“Good, and that means I can do this right?” Jin placed himself right behind Kame and wrapped his arms around Kame’s slim waist.
“Yeah” Kame leaned in a little against Jin’s body.
“And this?” Jin slowly placed his lips against Kame’s cheek and gave it a soft kiss. Jin could feel Kame smiling at the touch and gave Jin a nod. Kame had stopped moving the spoon around in the pot.
“And this?” Jin placed a hand on Kame’s cheek and moved Kame’s head slightly to the side so that he could move his face in closer. Jin carefully placed his lips on Kame’s and they both closed their eyes for the short moment their first kiss lasted.
“Yeah, and I really wouldn’t mind if you did that more often” Kame smiled.
“Great, because I really wouldn’t mind doing this as often as possible” Jin smiled back before he leaned in again to capture the other’s lips. This time the kiss lasted a while longer and their tongues got involved slightly at the end before they broke off the kiss. Kame’s eyes were a little dazed and Jin thought he looked absolutely adorable. Kame blushed slightly under Jin’s gaze and that made him look even more adorable as he turned his head back towards the pots on the stove.
“The food is ready” he said after he had lifted the lock of the rice pot.
“Just in time” Jin nuzzled Kame’s neck and nibbling slightly on the soft skin. “If I’d needed to wait much longer I might’ve started eating on you”
“Silly you” Kame snickered and kicked Jin’s shin playfully making Jin let go of his hold around Kame’s waist. Jin just chuckled as he walked over to the cupboards to take out some plates.
“Let’s eat quickly so that we quickly can move over to the couch and have our dessert there” Jin grinned taking out his favourite plates. Kame glanced over at him and replied with one simple nod and a smile. Jin’s heart started to beat faster and he felt like he would explode out of the strong feeling of happiness taking over his whole body

The end
